Community Assistance Center

''There is enough if we care enough.'' The CAC exists to provide support for our brothers and sisters in need. We help an average of 3,000 residents each year in addition to food baskets during Christmas to families who qualify. Our primary mission is to assist Ellis County families or individuals of low or no income, transients, the unhoused, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and disaster victims with food, clothing, household items, or furniture during both times of crisis and ongoing needs throughout the year. We regard each person as having individual dignity and worth and our goal is to provide aid with courtesy and confidentiality. We are a non-profit organization, and all funding is derived from private and charitable sources. The staff consists of a salaried director, one paid assistant, and approximately 45 dedicated volunteers. To help with operating expenses, the CAC invites the public to their garage sales on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a great opportunity for the community to take advantage of an economical source of clothing and household items. The food pantry is replenished by food and cash donations. There are two major county-wide food drives annually which include one in May conducted by the local post office, and the Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat in October sponsored by the Hays High School DECA Club. We cannot exist without the support of the community and are always grateful for any donations and our generous volunteers. Together we can make a difference.
