Position Summary
Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director (DD) will spearhead fundraising efforts as Options Domestic & Sexual Violence Services continues to grow. The DD plans and implements the organization’s development and fundraising programming to provide for short- and long-term needs of the agency including annual campaigns and capital campaigns.
 
Essential Functions
Unrestricted – 100%

  1. Develop and execute Options’ annual fundraising plan, in coordination with the Fundraising Committee
  2. Participate in Fundraising Committee meetings
  3. Secure financial support from individuals, local businesses, foundations and corporations
  4. Manage the implementation of donor relations management software, and direct the staff responsible for data entry and gift processing
  5. Create and execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors
  6. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with current donors
  7. Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them
  8. Develop and grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors
  9. Develop, plan and execute special fundraising and “friend raising” events
  10. Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
  11. Conduct foundation seeking activities including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
  12. Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies
  13. Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives
  14. Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives
  15. Direct employee fundraising drives
  16. Oversee prospect research
  17. Work closely with staff, Executive Director, and Board of Directors 
  18. Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Options and/or its programs and services with the community, including the Executive Director when appropriate
  19. Produce relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to donors and the public, including social media posts (for example: Annual Reports, quarterly newsletters, case statements, etc.)

Work Environment
This job operates in both an office environment as well as a home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
 
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Employees may be required to lift up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
Travel
Travel is primarily local (within the 18-county service area) during the business day, although some out of the area and overnight travel will be expected.
 
Preferred Education and Experience
  • BA (required), MA (a plus)
  • Five-plus years’ experience in non-profit development or related area
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of donor/customer relations management software

Position Hours
This is a full-time position; regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
